Wellness In The Works

Wellness PictureHealthy Lifestyle Choices

The City of Washington offers a variety of health and wellness benefits that emphasize a proactive approach to improving health and preventing disease.  Wellness is a way of living, eating a healthful diet, being physically active and managing one’s well-being. The everyday choices we make can help us live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives—both at work and at home. Studies show workplace wellness programs reduce health-care costs, reduce absenteeism and turnover, and improve employee health and well-being.  The City of Washington strives to provide employees with a positive, educational, and supportive environment, which provides a framework allowing individuals to live healthy, happy, and productive lives at work and in their private life at home.

Passport To Wellness

The City utilizes the Passport to Wellness to determine eligibility for the Healthy Advantage discount (10% off the cost of employee health insurance premiums).  Keep up with your preventive screenings and healthy activities throughout the plan year which runs July 1 – June 30.

Biometric Screenings

A great opportunity to get a "snapshot" of your health by participating in a  convenient, free and confidential health assessment.   Spend as little as 20 minutes and discover all of the positive health habits you have.  Plus, develop strategies for those you may want to change.  Research shows that individuals who routinely monitor these wellness indicators generally seek treatment sooner to improve their long-term health, and this often leads to lower health care costs both for the employee and the employer.   Remember you may be eligible to earn up to $300 based on your results.  There are two ways to complete the biometric screening.

Option 1:  Attend the yearly Biometric Screening hosted by the City of Washington.  Appointments typically take 20 minutes to complete.  Details on registration are emailed out prior to the event.

Option 2: You may also have the biometric screening done by your personal physician (must be completed within 90 days prior to the biometric screening date).   Providers must complete the Physician Certification Form - 2021 and fax or email to Vidant's number indicated on the form.

Wellness Challenges

The City of Washington challenges employees to improve their own health and happiness while fostering camaraderie in the workplace and reaping the benefits of health cost savings.  In the end, everyone wins - and has fun doing it!
