                                   845 N Pierce St, Building 4

The City of Washington is updating its existing Comprehensive Plan and CAMA Land Use Plan through community engagement. This combined Comprehensive Plan and CAMA Land Use Plan will be forward-thinking and will align with the City’s vision and goals. It will serve as a guide for elected and appointed officials making significant land use decisions, decisions which will impact the entire community. The development of this Plan will be driven by the community and will include the required elements of a CAMA Land Use Plan and include local elements that preserve community character.

The combined Comprehensive Plan and CAMA Land Use Plan will also include a Future Land Use Map depicting the intended development pattern for the City’s future. The map will be developed to help achieve the community’s vision for the City of Washington.

How can YOU get involved?
Over the next several months, the project will include many opportunities for providing input, including a project kickoff public meeting, a community survey, and additional public meetings. Be sure to check back for updates! For now, start thinking about and discussing the following with your family and friends:

  • What do I love about Washington?
  • What is my biggest concern for the future of Washington?
  • What would I like to see improved in Washington?

Kickoff Public Meeting
The first step in the process was a project kickoff public meeting held on August 25th at the Washington Civic Center. If you were unable to attend, you can view a video of the meeting by clicking on the link below. You can also view the PowerPoint presentation as well as the educational display boards prepared by the consultant. A citizen comment card was handed out at this meeting. If you would like to fill one out please do so and return it to the Planning Department located inside City Hall or email it to htetterton@washingtonnc.gov.

Comprehensive/CAMA Plan Survey
The City of Washington is updating its Comprehensive/CAMA Land Use Plan to guide growth and development over the next 20 years. Your input is important to this process. The guidance in this plan will be applicable to the City’s municipal limits and extraterritorial jurisdiction, which is where the City can regulate land use and development. The feedback gathered from this survey is important in shaping the Plan’s goals and recommendations. Thank you to all who participated in distributing and taking the survey. It was open from September 13 - October 12.
