The Inspections Division works to promote the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the City of Washington, through the uniform enforcement of the North Carolina State Building Code and other local ordinances for all areas inside the city limits and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Primary duties of the Inspections Division include performing construction plan review, issuing construction-related permits, conducting field inspections during various phases of construction of buildings and structures including the installation of electrical, mechanical, gas, and plumbing systems to ensure code compliancy, issuing certificates of compliance and occupancy and other activates as mandated by North Carolina General Statutes. The Division also administers the Flood Prevention Ordinance.

The inspections department also oversees all minimum housing violations.

We are located on the first floor of Washington's City Hall at 102 East Second Street, Washington, NC 27889.
