Water and Sewer Division

The Water and Sewer Division of Public Works is responsible for delivering water and sewer services to customers in the City of Washington and outlying areas of Beaufort County.

The Water Distribution system constructs and maintains approximately 83 miles of distribution system lines varying in sizes from 1 to 24 inches, installing new water connections and maintaining hydrants.  Water storage is provided by 3 elevated tanks holding 1.3 million gallons of water and 2.5 million gallons of ground storage.  They also maintain the backflow prevention program.

The Wastewater Collection System consists of approximately 75 miles of gravity sewer mains ranging 6 inches to 24 inches in diameter and 27 miles of force mains.  This division is responsible for collecting wastewater and transporting it to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, constructing sewer lines, maintaining and repairing the collection system and installing new connections to the system.

Wastewater Annual Report

The Clean Water Act of 1999, passed by the NC General Assembly, requires wastewater systems to provide an annual report to their customers.  This report summarizes the performance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Collection System.  Our goal is to protect the environment and the quality of water along the Tar-Pamlico River Basin.
